The Vagina Monologues, Monday 27th Feb 2012 02/27/2012
Feminism In General, Daughters Of Eve and Clit Rock have joint forces to present The Vagina Monologues. Based on author Eve Ensler’s ‘Vagina Interviews’ conducted with women from all around the world, this hilariously witty and moving collection of tales give voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave and thoroughly human stories. Along side the original work of Eve Ensler, there will also be new personal and powerful monologues from FGM survivors, providing awareness, about the practice and how we can take action in its prevention. This event is a fundraiser for Daughters of Eve, FGM survivor group, an amazing space for young people who have been affected by FGM to get support and information to help them deal with their experience. As well as the play on the night there will also be a stall with t-shirts, sweets, cakes, a raffle and DJs afterward for the purposes of mingling, dancing with a bar open till late. This will be an educational as well as entertaining and powerful evening so please come join us and raise not just funds but also awareness of FGM and the great work Daughters of Eve are doing. Tickets £5 available here! Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, London. 19.00-23.00 As feminists, we need to be dedicated to fighting violence against women and girls in all its forms. We need to stand with our sisters across the world and across communities to say no to FGM and to say no to oppression and to say no to violence. Please join Nimko Ali from Daughters of Eve, Ruthie Taylor: Orchid Project, Jackie Mathers:Bristol PCT and Sian Norris BFN who will be talking about FGM after the film and taking your questions. Anna Brown will be chairing. Please be warned that this film contains footage which some viewers may find distressing. This event is FREE The Watershed, Bristol. 13.00-16.00 Thursday 28th October 2010 The Empowerment of young people Our conference was targeted at younger people and provided an unique opportunity to aid in the fight against FGM through education and to raise awareness amongst their peers. Topics of discussion at the Conference included FGM and its cultural significance and the health consequences and social implications of FGM. The Conference set out to provide a platform with which young people could build strong and lasting networks with the relevant community groups.
